Booster Club Meeting Minutes

September 14, 2010

Treasurer Jo Cunningham gave a brief summary of our budget and account balance.  Most athletes have turned in their fees.  We have also collected fees from the majority of the middle school athletes.

Lifetouch will be at the school on Friday, September 17 at 3:45 p.m. for cross-country team and individual pictures.  Runners should wear the new dri-fit shirts and shorts.  If you do not have your shorts, please pick them up from Coach Allen.  Picture order forms may be picked up in Coach Allen’s office or in the front office (see Natalie Feller).  Athletes may wish to wear their uniforms under the dri-fit shirts/shorts for their individual pictures.

The team dri-fit shirts and shorts have arrived.  If any athlete still needs them, please pick them up from Coach Allen.  Approximately 10 more middle school uniforms need to be ordered.  Cross-country parent t-shirts will be ordered on September 15, and they should arrive next week.

Booster Club Officers were nominated and voted into office.  They are as follows:  President – Jeff Stuart, Vice-President – Rob Schofer, Treasurer – Jo Cunningham, Secretary – Jane Adams.

Our new website is full of information.  Please check it regularly for all meet information and more.  Natalie Feller, our communications specialist, is the only person who can add updates to our website; however, any pictures can be uploaded directly.  A link will be added so that you may access the Georgia track & field/cross-country website directly from our website.

The snack committee has been keeping our athletes well fed and hydrated at our meets.  All middle school athletes should be eating after their event as well.  Purchase of another small cooler was approved for the drinks.  The large cooler is too heavy and the handle is broken.  Thanks to all who have helped in this area.

The end-of-season banquet was discussed and ideas approved.  The event will be held on November 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Set up will begin at 5:00 p.m.  It will be held in the Hillgrove cafeteria and will be catered by Cangelosi’s.  Anne Stuart will get a quote from the restaurant.  Natalie will ask Mrs. Arrowood, the culinary arts teacher, if students in culinary arts would be willing to serve that evening.  Having a separate middle school banquet was discussed.

A pasta dinner social was discussed.  The team will meet at Cangelosi’s on Thursday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. for a fun-filled dinner prior to the September 23 meet.  Athletes will be responsible for their own expenses at this meal.

Our fundraiser (The Hillgrove Holiday Classic) was discussed and approved.  The event will now be called “The Hillgrove Classic,” since it has been decided to move the event from chilly December to less chilly March.  In order to keep it simple, the race will be a single 5K.  The new race dates discussed were March 19th or 26th.  A Hillgrove Classic committee will need to be formed and an organizational meeting to discuss the details will be held (tentatively) on September 28.  Elizabeth Unislawski has agreed to head up this event, but we will need many volunteers to make this a successful fundraiser.

The practice schedule for the remainder of this week (9/15 – 9/17) is as follows:  Wednesday afternoon at school; Thursday afternoon at the mountain (pick up at the Kroger parking lot); Friday morning at school and pictures after school.

For runners that will be in town, the practice schedule for the week of 9/20-9/24 is as follows:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at the mountain at 7:30 a.m. and Wednesday at school at 7:30 a.m.  Coach Abernathy will be leading these practices.  Those who cannot attend these practices are encouraged to run on their own.

Please meet at school at 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 25 for the next meet.  The bus will be picking up athletes by the steps on the gym side of the school.
